Techniques
Manual Adjusting Techniques
Diversified Techniques: The Diversified technique is one of the most commonly practiced techniques that involves manually placing pressure through the affected vertebral segment in order to restore proper movement. This technique is a safe and effective way of relieving stiffness and pain.
Thompson Drop Techniques: The drop piece of special chiorpractic table will be cocked to be dropped and will be used for adjusting a patient and is set to correspond to patient’s weight. The doctor will apply a thrust on patient’s spine while also releasing the drop piece so it drops as the doctor thrusts. This removes misalignments of the spine in a much easier, gentle way than traditional chiropractic manual adjustments.
Gonstead Techniques: Gonstead adjustments are designed for maximum affect to the discs, while also working to restore normal alignment of the joint and its motion. Gonstead chiropractic assessment utilizes several methods of examination to analyze multiple factors, which, as effectively as possible, uncovers the primary characteristics of the spine structures.
Toggle Recoil: Toggle Recoil helps address problems in patients who may be experiencing a variety of neurological, disc, and sinus issues by adjusting the upper cervical spine by using a specific head piece on a Drop Table.
Pierce Technique: This technique utilizes a biomechanical analysis of spine motion by specific equipments to determine the loss of spinal function and other physical findings to objectify case management. The technique requires the use of a specialized table with drop-assist pelvic and cervical pads.
Low Force Adjusting Techniques
Diversified Techniques: Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT): S.O.T. is a chiropractic technique that utilizes S.O.T. blocks (which are specific wedges) that they get positioned delicately and precisely under the pelvis, to re-align the head, spine and pelvis.
Instrumental Adjusting Techniques
Activator Technique: Activator is a low-force chiropractic adjusting technique that utilizes a hand-held, spring loaded device that delivers a controlled force to correct misalignment of a skeletal segment.
Active Release Technique (ART): ART is a non-invasive treatment system for resolving soft-tissue disorders and nerve issues, such as strains, sprains, and musculoskeletal disorders. This hands-on technique alleviates pain and restores function of the skeletal segment.
Instrument Adjusting Technique: This is a mechanical method of chiropractic adjustment that a chiropractor utilizes a handheld device as an instrument adjusting tool which delivers a gentle and targeted adjusting force to the different joints on the patient’s body and precisely brings them back into alignment.
Specialized Adjusting Techniques
Extremity Adjuting Technique: Extremity adjusting is a specialized chiropractic technique that involves manipulating the joints other than the spinal joints. The extremities can include the joints in the upper extremities which comprise shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, and also the lower extremity joints consist of hips, knees, ankles, and feet. Just like the spine, these joints can experience misalignment, dysfunction, and pain that can benefit from chiropractic adjustment.
Cranial Adjustment: Cranial adjustment is an applying a very gentle force (or pressure) to the different bones of the cranium in specific direction, in order to re-align them to the proper place.
Applied Kinesiology: Applied kinesiology (AK) is a diagnostic techniques (method) uses muscles strength in alternative medicine such as chiropractic assess several aspects of health and diagnose illness or choose treatment based on testing muscles for strength and weakness.
Cox Flexion/Distraction Technique: The Cox flexion distraction technique is a gentle procedure that makes the spine to heal naturally by using a special table and slight pressure to stretch and decompress the spine, slowly. This method alleviates the pressure that causes pain and neuropathy in different part of the spine.
Spinal Decompression Therapy: Spinal Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical method of traction of the spine to address the pain and neurological symptoms in different areas of the spine including neck, upper back, and lower back. This traction procedure gets performed by utilizing a special motorized traction machine.
Non-surgical Disc Treatments: The special chiropractic adjustment of a misaligned vertebra can bring that segment into a proper alignment and relieves pressure over the correlated disc and nerves of that specific joint.
Class IV Laser Therapy : The Class IV laser is able to penetrate up to 4 cm and since it is able to penetrate so deeply into the body, it can treat vast majority of soft tissue structures such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves in different joints of the body, effectively. The class IV laser is 24 times more powerful that a cold laser (or low level laser therapy (LLLT)). Laser therapy using the Class IV has a massive non-invasive, non-surgical, and drug-free healing effects. Laser therapy can be beneficial for pain relief of variety of acute and chronic conditions. It decreases inflammation, and increases blood flow to the tissue and allows for better absorption of nutrients. Class IV laser therapy is especially effective to expedite recovery after a surgery or sports injury.
Soft Tissue Techniques
Graston Technique / Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobiliation (IASTM): Graston technique is a manual soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization therapy by utilizing “specialized form” scraping tools. Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a skilled myofascial therapy used for soft-tissue treatment. It is based on the principles of cross- friction massage.
Trigger Point Therapy (TPT): Trigger point therapy is a neuromuscular therapy designed to speed up recovery from injury, correct muscular imbalances, curing the muscle tightness, and relieve pain by stretching the muscles and applying pressure on a painful or tender spot in a muscle which is called “muscle knots”. This method of therapy helps to relive muscle tension and promote healing process.
Myofacial Release Technique (MRT): Myofascial release therapy is a type of soft-tissue treatment for resolving “skeletal muscle immobility” and “pain in contracted muscles”. This healing process improves blood and lymphatic circulation, also stimulates the stretch reflex in the affected muscles.
Trigger point therapy can be used in Myofascial Release Technique by locating trigger points or muscle knots, in the myofascial tissues and applying the gentle and constant pressure on the myofascial tissues which are the thin but tough connective tissues that wrap around most soft tissue structures such as muscles, until the patient feels the “tension release” in that area.
Kinesiology Taping: Kinesiology tape is a thin, flexible tape that used to aid muscle movement and enhance athletic performance. These specific tapes are often used to relieve pain, reduce swelling and inflammation, and provide support to joints and muscles.
